Manchester United is having a fairly mediocre season as the English club is currently positioned in the 4th spot of the Premier League after having collected 29 points from the opening 16 matches of the season which have been played so far, they still have a realistic chance of becoming the champions of England but it has been a completely different story for them when it comes to the Champions League.
Louis van Gaal and his players did not manage to make it past the group stages of the Champions League after losing against Wolfsburg and did not have enough points to advance into the next stages of the European competition.
The former Manchester United player, Michael Owen believes that the changes which Louis van Gaal has implemented since taking control of the Premier League club have ruined the squad.
Michael Owen voiced his thoughts about Manchester United after they lost against Wolfburg on December 8 and the English pundit said: “I feel with all the money that has been invested it’s a worse squad than it was. We were looking at the players Van Gaal has let go in his reign during the 18 months and I’m sure they would beat tonight’s team.
“We had Rafael, NemanjaVidic, Jonny Evans and PatriceEvra as a back four. Nani, ShinjiKagawa, Tom Cleverley, Robin van Persie andChicharito Javier Hernandez. Adnan Januzaj is another one. DannyWelbeck is another one. Apart from that the players he has let go are probably better than what we’ve seen tonight and that’s after all that investment.”
It has been a little over 18 months since Louis van Gaal took charge of Manchester United and during this period of time, the Dutch coach has spent over £250million in re-structuring his squad. This is a huge amount of money and it is certainly disappointing to see Louis van Gaal not being able to push his team past the group stages especially taking into consideration all the cash that has been injected in the team with the objective of transforming then in a world class team.
