Kevin Phillips believes Jack Grealish would suit Liverpool’s style of play

Former Aston Villa striker Kevin Phillips believes Jack Grealish could emerge as a possible target for Liverpool when the transfer window reopens in the summer. The 24-year-old has been the standout performer since the Villains promotion to the top-flight and he has contributed seven goals and six assists during the current campaign.

Owing to those performances, he has already been fancied to make the move to Manchester United this summer but Phillips feels the attacker could suit Jurgen Klopp’s style of play, he told: “Liverpool are at a point where they can splash out on the world’s best. Those world’s best players want to come and play for Liverpool and Klopp. He plays a certain style and he will not buy someone unless it plays his system. The obvious one is Jack Grealish. If Villa go down, I am certain he will move on. Could he play for Liverpool? He is the only one out of the bottom three or four teams that could fit in that team. They will certainly be targeting players from top abroad teams and around the world.”

The west Midlands outfit are currently facing the prospect of relegation from the Premier League as they are two points adrift of safety with an extra game in hand. Of course, the Villains have 10 more games where they could save their season but there are doubts whether the season will commence next month following the coronavirus pandemic.

The Premier League has suspended the fixtures until April 4 but there are suggestions that the games could be delayed further. Meanwhile, a potential void of the season could see them preserve their top-flight status. There is another possibility of Villa being relegated with the current standings deemed as final but that appears the unlikely option. As things stand, Villa have a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on April 4.
