OWEN PREDICTS ARSENAL OUTCOME

Premier League legend Michael Owen predicted the Europa League semi-final first leg clash between Arsenal and Villarreal correctly.

Ex-Liverpool and Newcastle United striker Owen made his prediction for the game at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Thursday night on BetVictor.

Michael Owen had predicted a 2-1 win for Spanish team Villarreal at the expense of the Gunners on his BetVictor column and he was spot on.

Arsenal lost their first leg meeting with the Yellow Submarines as the two teams finished the game with ten men. Villarreal took the lead inside four minutes through midfielder Manu Trigueros before experienced defender Raul Albiol added a second goal for the hosts in the first half. The goals from Trigueros and Albiol ensured that Villarreal established a 2-0 lead at the interval.

Arsenal were dealt a big blow on 57 minutes when they were reduced to ten men thanks to the second yellow card issued to Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos. The Gunners warmed up to their task with ten men and they were handed a route back into the game when Trigueros fouled Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka in the box. Ivorian winger Nicolas Pepe stepped up to tuck away the resulting penalty and reduce the deficit for the Gunners.

Villarreal also ended the game with ten men just like the Gunners after Frenchman Etienne Capoue was sent off for two yellow cards. He will now miss the return leg at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday alongside Spanish international Ceballos.

The Gunners lost the first leg 2-1 to Villarreal away from home but a 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium in their home leg would be enough to see them through to the final.

Michael Owen predicted the first leg of the other semi-final as well between his former team Manchester United and Italian giants AS Roma. He predicted a 1-0 home win for the Red Devils but the game ended in a 6-2 win for them.
