OWEN INCORRECT WITH CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PREDICTIONS

Premier League legend Michael Owen was a total miss with his Champions League predictions for the games on Wednesday. The Ex-Stoke City, Manchester United and Liverpool striker made his predictions on his column with BetVictor. Michael Owen is an ambassador for the betting platform.

According to Michael Owen, European champions Chelsea will beat Real Madrid 3-1 at home, but reverse was the case after the Spanish La Liga club produced an impressive 3-1 victory over the Premier League team thanks to the treble from in-form skipper Karim Benzema who has now scored consecutive hat-tricks in his last two games to take his Champions League tally to 11 goals and one behind topscorer Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid raced into a two-goal lead at the expense of West London giants Chelsea within three minutes thanks to French player Benzema. He scored the first goal on 21 minutes before adding a second goal three minutes later. All his two goals in the first half were headers that Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal had no chance of saving. Kai Havertz pulled a goal back for Chelsea five minutes from the end of the first 45 minutes to give the hosts renewed hope of getting a draw or a win in the second half. The renewed hope evaporated one minute into the second half after Senegalese international goalkeeper Mendy made a mistake and Benzema punished him to complete his hat-trick and become only the fourth player to score successive Champions League hat-tricks after Lionel Messi, Luiz Adriano and Cristiano Ronaldo. His treble was enough to give Real Madrid a two-goal advantage ahead of the second leg in Madrid later this month.
Michael Owen also predicted a 1-1 draw for the other Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday between Spanish side Villarreal and German champions Bayern Munich. The ex-Newcastle United striker went for a 1-1 draw at the home of Villarreal, but the outcome was a 1-0 win for Villarreal thanks to the early goal from Arnaut Danjuma.
