OWEN GETS HIS CHANCE

Manchester United are looking at the prospect of recalling former Liverpool striker Michael Owen to the team after the injury suffered by Danny Welbeck means that United might have only one striker to field on the bench for the match against Swansea.

Danny Welbeck went down after a challenge from Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong. The tackle immediately drew a response from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who then had a touchline spat with Mancini.

Manchester United never really recovered from the first half goal scored by Vincent Kompany. They now have to rely on Newcastle taking points off Manchester City if they are to win their 20th Premier league title.

As a result of the injury to Danny Welbeck, Hernandez is expected to start the match alongside Wayne Rooney against Swansea during the weekend. It would mean that only Dimitar Berbatov will be the fit striker for United on the bench. Even though Michael Owen is coming to the end of his Manchester United career, Sir Alex Ferguson will turn towards the former England man to help him out. Owen is expected to be named in the bench alongside Dimitar Berbatov, who is also expected to leave at the end of the season. Owen's contract expires at the end of the season.

“Beating United is an important moment for us psychologically because we knew we had to win this game. Mentally, we knew we had to win it. The Newcastle game is like a final for us now. We have to win it. We are ready to win the title. We beat United at Old Trafford. We don’t need to think about United now. We’ve passed that mental stage. They are a great team and they have been winning and winning and winning,” Silva said after the Manchester derby.
