Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen says that he is feeling deep within his heart that Liverpool will be able to win the Premier League this season. Liverpool have emerged as the surprise candidates for the title with less than five matches remaining.
They will be taking on title rivals Manchester city at Anfield in what promises to be a crunch match. After being hugely successful at Anfield this season, Liverpool will be hoping for a 10th straight victory against the title rivals.
Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who won the European Player of the Year award during his time at the club, says that it would be great to see Liverpool lifting the title for the first time. The club has been unable to even qualify for the Champions League the last few seasons, as they have finished in disappointing eighth and seventh places. However, the absence of any form of European football this season has aided Liverpool to concentrate on the league completely. And with players like Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, they have been scoring goals for fun.
Owen says that Liverpool have been such a breath of fresh air to the league with the attacking brand of football and he just feels that it is time that the club lifted the trophy.
"My heart says Liverpool and I hope they win it. But regardless if they do, it's great to see them back at the top of their game again. It's great to see Anfield rocking. Lots of teams have got good players but Brendan Rodgers has managed to tweak formations and get the best out of them. Not many teams go with two strikers up front for fear of having a weakened midfield. Half the time they put a striker out on the left wing in a position they don't really enjoy or are not used to,” said Owen.
