OWEN DOUBTS UNITED TITLE BID

Michael Owen doesn't think former club Manchester United can win the Premier League title this season. The ex-England national team striker doubted the Premier League title credentials of Manchester United in a chat with the Daily Star.

According to Michael Owen, the current Manchester United squad is adept at counterattacking football and this could cause a lot of problems for the big teams but he doesn't think the current Red Devils squad is a well rounded team like rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, who have won the last three Premier League titles on offer between them.

Premier League legend Michael Owen knows all about winning the Premier League title having won it during his time at Manchester United but he thinks the idea of winning the title might be a step too far for the current set of Manchester United players. The former Liverpool, Stoke City and Newcastle United player is certain that Manchester United would be in the mix for the Premier League title but doubts they can win it ahead of better teams like Manchester City and Liverpool.

Liverpool are the defending champions but they are on a poor run of three games without a win and that has seen them lose their lead at the top of the Premier League table as things stand. The Reds and Manchester United have the same point tally (33) at the top of the standings but significantly, Manchester United have a game in hand on Liverpool. The Red Devils will play that extra game at Burnley next week Tuesday and they have the opportunity to go three points clear of the Reds with a win over Burnleyat Turf Moor. Manchester City are also in the title mix and they can go two points clear of leaders Liverpool if they win their two games in hand against Aston Villa and Everton.
