LIVERPOOL AMBASSADOR MICHAEL OWEN GIVES EUROPA LEAGUE TITLE TO THE REDS

Liverpool Ambassador Michael Owen has predicted that The Reds will lift the Europa League this season as they play Spanish side, Sevilla FC.

History suggests that Liverpool will move past Sevilla. Liverpool reached six semi finals in this competition and on each occasion they have progressed, they have gone on to win the trophy (1973, 1976 and 2001). However, Sevilla boast of an even more impressive record, having reached the final four times and won all of them (2006, 2007, 2014 and 2015).

Sevilla will play in the finals of the Copa Del Rey against recently crowned Champions of Spanish football league – the La Liga, later this month. With the form the current champions, Barcelona, are in and after being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League, as well as being well rested, they are clear favourites to lift the title. Hence, Sevilla would have to slug it out with Liverpool as it is their real title winning chance this season. They didn’t place top enough in the Spanish top League to get Champions League football next season, so defeating The Reds will present them with the chance.

If Liverpool manager, JurgenKlopp, guides the team to lift the trophy, he would be the sixth manager to lift a European title after Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Gerrard Houlier and Rafael Benitez. Liverpool defender, Alberto Moreno ios facing his home town club, having come through the ranks to make 62 first team appearances for the Andalusian Club. His last match for Sevilla was their 2014 Europa League final victory over Benfica. Sevilla forward Jose Antonio Reyes and Liverpool’s KoloToure were team mates at Arsenal. There is just so much at stake at the final but the Newcastle legend slants towards Liverpool winning with Adam Lallana scoring ahead of PhillippeCoutinho and Daniel Sturridge.
